How to disable TimeBrokerSvc in Windows10.

Haveing heavy CPU and/or Disk usage. Seeing 'Microsoft download/upload host' running with heavy CPU or Disk usage. If stopped will start back up in a few minutes. This may be being caused by the Microsoft 'TimeBroker' service which was added in Windows 8. It can be disabled without causing any ill effects. To disable you need to edit the Windows Registry.

'Caution' Working with the Windows Registry can make the pc inoperable. Be sure you backup the Registry first. For more information on working with the Windows Registry - - > Go Here < - -.

  • Open the registry editor by pressing the Windows key, typing regedit, and pressing Enter.
  • Navigate to the following registry key:
  • [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TimeBrokerSvc] "Start"=dword:00000003
  • Change the dword 'Start' from 3 to 4.
  • [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TimeBroker] "Start"=dword:00000004
  • 4 is Disabled, 3 is Manual and 2 is Automatic startup.
  • Close regedit and restart your computer.
